Day/Night Cycle Added
This week I focused on lighting, including implementing the basics of the much needed day and night cycle into Symbyte! The cycle includes a sun which moves across the sky and casts dynamic shadows as the day progresses. Currently, the colors are fairly realistic, but the intention is to have a more radically toxic looking daytime in the future. Also, now streetlights (during the night) and the sun (during the day) provide light to keep the player sane. Importantly, the length of Symbyte growth is now tied to the length of a day, so growth of the player's pet should feel more rooted in the passing of time.
With these changes came some general changes to the Sanity system to accommodate varying levels of light:
Things that increase sanity:
- Petting your Symbyte
- Looking at your Symbyte
- Standing in the day light
- Standing near a light source
- Having a light-producing tool (flashlight, torch)
Things that decrease sanity:
- Standing in the dark
- Gazing upon a monster
- The realization of your endless loneliness
Some images of the various stages of the day can be seen in the accompanying screenshots!
Most importantly, Symbyte poops now stay on the screen until they are cleaned off.
Symbyte
a game where you explore a spooky world in the company of your virtual pet.
